As of #PurpleSunday (February 12, 2017), Prince’s biggest hits became available on many major streaming services–including Spotify, Pandora, and iHeartRadio.
Prince’s early works, from 1979 to 1996, became available on Sunday, but the rest of his catalog will be released in the future. Universal Music Group has been chosen by Prince’s estate to manage the licensing rights to his catalog, including his later works and even unreleased music. For 70 more years, Prince’s copyright will hold true, and with the publicity surrounding his recent death, it is likely that the number of plays on streaming services will be high. That being said, the addition of his catalog to streaming services will increase the profit from royalties. In such a way, the legend lives on.
